I consider it to be the greatest RPG of all time. Over 40 hours of gameplay. Let's see Square Enix beat that.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Oblivion, too, although I think it has a lot that can be improved upon, such as the very repetitive dungeons.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Two Worlds isn't the game to do it. I've been playing the PC demo, and it's really quite underwhelming, to be generous.
There were several aspects of Fable that I liked, and at times, I wished that I could combine it and Oblivion.
You know, I wonder if Darklands and Ultima had the same graphics, would we think Oblivion that great?
Actually, it'll be interesting to check out Fallout 3 which will use the Oblivion engine.
Some of those Dungeons were sidequests, so you did not have to play those parts.

I do not see why you can't compare Oblivion to Final Fantasy. They are both in the RPG genre, so it is not like you are comparing Grand Theft Auto to the Simpsons.
ReplyDeleteI don't know . . . I put in over 60 hours playing FF III on the DS, and I wasn't mucking around. For a mostly linear game, that's a long time. I love the party aspect of Final Fantasy.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't think Oblivion's openness takes anything away from FF. They're both great games.
Oblivion gives gamers more than what Final Fantasy has to offer. You can follow the main storyline, or you can diverge and do a variety of other things. You are stuck to a fairly linear path in Final Fantasy.
ReplyDeleteHaving been horrendously disapointed by Two Worlds (which goes back to the store tommorrow), Im afraid to look forward to Fallout, I had endless fun with the original PC game, and dallied briefly with a ps2 version... oblivion engine and fallout.. (licks lips..)

FFXII and Oblivion rank of equal importance in my gaming library, each has there unique slant on rpg and both have transported me away from this vale of steroid eaters.... (stares at Gnome...) ...erm and FFXII has Fran....

I have said this before, and I'll say it again. As soon as I saw the opening credits, I fell head over heels in love with Nariko.
ReplyDeleteas a hobby i recently took up assembling garage kits (resin figures).. one had captured my imagination for ages.. Rei in her white plug suit... totally irrational, but whatever makes the heart beats faster....., if there is a god I'm hoping they'll produce a nariko kit...
