Heavenly Sword Review

Play Magazine are first out of the block with a review for the game, which is due Sept 12th (US) Sept 14th (EU). Still despite Play Magazine being a liberal sprinkler of 10's, it appears there may well be some substance behind the pretty redhead and the 10GB of sound.

Buzzzzzz!
Forums are reporting the game is only between 6-7 hours long, see here and here
OJ.net suggests 12-13 hours.

Unconfirmed reports that Edge magazine UK (notoriously low scorers) have given the game 6/10 see gametrailers.com

Reviews Summary:

Play Magazine 10/10
"What MotorStorm has become to racing and Odin Sphere to action role-playing, Heavenly Sword is now to 3D action: Perfection."

Gamepro 4.5/5
"Gamers can and should busy themselves by taking in the compelling saga of Nariko and her heavenly blade. It is without a doubt a journey worth taking, even if the road to the end is somewhat bumpy."

Gameinformer 88
"an incredibly cinematic experience. It may invite comparisons to other action titles, but I can safely say that Heavenly Sword is a unique and captivating adventure with a style all its own."

Cheat Code Central 84
"By and large, this is a game you should consider playing, whether you rent it or add it to your library of purchased games. I wouldn't say it's a title worth buying the PS3 for"

Electronic Gaming Monthly 83
"motion control adds an unprecedented layer of complexity and fun to an otherwise familiar fare"

Game Revolution 83
"One of the few games I’ve felt the urge to replay on a harder difficulty, just because those 7 hours were so sweet"

1up 80
"Inspired by good taste, rather than looking up the recipe and coming up with something that's not quite as good as the original"

Gamedaily 80
"a God of War knockoff, and after plowing through another room of identical enemies you may eventually lose the urge to see what's around the next corner."

IGN (UK) 7/10
"the lavishness of the show might well be enough for you to overcome the game’s significant failings. There’s definitely some kind of fun to be had here – albeit of the one-engaged brain cell"

IGN.com 7/10
"Heavenly Sword comes very close to being great, but nearly every element of its design falls short in one way or another."

Edge Magazine 6/10

The demo was awesome, but I dont trust Play Magazine for reviews though. I go more by IGN or Gamespot, they're more credible and accurate with the scores. Nonetheless this game is going to be amazing.

Well a PS3 will have to go on my Christmas list I suppose....

Liberal you say, huh? Well, guess we'll have to rob an old lady out of her PS3/Heavenly Sword demo and see for ourselves.

Even if you don't trust Play Magazine Jerwig00, you have to trust Sony. Same company that made Heavenly Sword will make God of War 3.

First BioShock now this game. Is Sony trying to go head to head maybe...

Wow! I havent' seen this place as busy since they found the dead ogr.... erm

.... right first let me put on the kettle.... move some furniture.... ..

Welcome Jerwigoo I share your healthy cynicism of Play magazine... the games certainly looking the business though there's a nasty rumour circulating that the game may be shorter than expected......

Deitrix i'm still on the fence.. too much of an outlay, still it wouldn't take much to push me over the edge....

Gnome!! mildred and mary down in the old folks home are now sleeping with a loaded revolver under their pillows...... for shame!!!

comforting thought Funnyman....

Timerunner release dates are uncomfortably close.. i reckon a significant number will invest in a ps3 because of this game.....

a producer from G4TV.... gulp!!!! it's that bloody leprechaun and his pron photos isn't it.... dang...... (brushs hair...smiles...) okay you've got my interest....

Hi FK (runs to give FK a big bear hug....) your were missed.... teas nearly ready... The demo was fun, but it has flaws with the camera.

Funnyman seeing as a demo is suppose to showcase the game. .this is worrying.....

I've put some extra milk in there for you FK, i think it's safe to remove the bandage from you tongue now.....

I learned not to judge a game by its many reviews a long time ago, especially a game I have been looking forward to for a long time. I'm not going to let some guy shatter my enthusiasm with a bad grade, I have to try it for myself.

The Elderly said...

excellent point Spooky, genji got bad press but from what i've seen it is an absolutely stunning game. At todays game prices though, i normally rent before i buy if I have any doubts... more expensive but i feel alot more confident when i do purchase.... thanks for taking the time to comment.

EDGE did indeed give it 6/10 (I have the copy right here in my hands, got it about a week ago because I'm a subscriber) and, in my opinion, EDGE is usually right.

The Elderly said...

Thank you Tom.. that confirms it... score added.... from the days when i did purchase game mags.. edge was always to be trusted, spared me the world of hype....

FUNNYMAN said...

There are so lucky they were able to play the game.

The Elderly said...

well it wouldn't have taken them long to finish it... that was the biggest surprise for me.. thought it would be massive...

Reviews these days can't be trusted... play this game!!!
The best looking graphics out!
Very god of war "ish"!! Which was a plus for me.
The only game that the motion controller has been useful, and fun.

The acting in it was awsome, the King was Golem in LOTR he was amazing. Trust me!!!

The Elderly said...

Thank you Tyler... you are indeed correct with to majority of reviews... on a separate note but concerning reviews Im constantly amazed how how IGN can offer the same review for multi platform releases.. point taken and thanks for comment...
