How to apply a Ps3 skin

Hello! Alf the Helper here. :)

I'm assuming You've got your Ps3 skin, you've got your Ps3, the instructions either haven't come with your kit or they read like a novel and suddenly things are not looking as easy as you first thought. So if your confidence level isn't as it should be at this stage, these instructions I hope should be of some use to you.

Sitting comfortably, let's begin.

Prepare for a Shock
Your Ps3 might at this stage be connected to enough electricity to fling you across the far side of the room at the very least so remove any discs, controllers and disconnect your Ps3 from it's power source.

Working Surface:
Place your Ps3 SECURELY on a well lit, clean work surface.  Remember a fall from any height could be fatal, for your Ps3 that is.

The boring bit, Cleaning the Ps3:
Many skin manufacturers recommend you clean the surface with a lint free soft cloth and some rubbing alcohol aka surgical spirit.  Alternatively simply use a wet wipe and ensure you dry the surface with a lint free cloth afterwards.  The cleaning is necessary to get rid of gunge, cigarette smoke residue, grease and dust mites, nasty horrible little buggers.

Check to make sure you've left no lint or stray hairs, they will show up on the final surface.  Do not go touching the surface again.

Understand your Skin:
No you don't have to engage it in conversation, but do make sure you know where each piece goes especially for multi piece skin sets.  Start with the smaller pieces first, and avoid working yourself towards a heart attack by dealing with a large piece straight away. Working with smaller pieces gives you experience before you tackle large pieces, which always require extra special care and attention.

Have your tools to hand:
A pin or needle (for delinquent bubbles)
The skin panels
A soft dry, lint free cloth
A soft plastic squeegee or plastic card to help with smoothing out the skin.

Okay here we go:
First piece......deep breath, peel off the protective backing, (pull it slowly back onto itself, at a 180-degree angle) position the skin over the surface, but do not attempt to place the skin straight on in one go, rather start with one end/corner and slowly and smoothly ease the skin over the Ps3 surface.

Take care to smooth out the skin as you progress, avoiding any buckles, wrinkles or bubbles. Remember do not begin applying the skin until you have it positioned correctly, and avoid any other part of the skin touching the surface, while your easing it on.  Any bubbles that develop can be burst with a pin or needle.

Phew! time for a cup of tea and admire your handywork, remember there is no time limit.

Large Skin piece:
Although you can apply a large panel on your own, it may be no harm to ask a complete stranger for assistance, though I prefer family members, flat mates or even your friend, provided you haven't trounced her/him online recently.

Carefully fold back about 25mm of the backing paper, now line this edge up and get it fixed in place ensuring there are no wrinkles, Now Whilst your buddy or the complete stranger slowly peels off the backing paper you smooth the skin down from side to side. rubbing the surface as you go with a clean cloth, squeegee or plastic card can help avoid bubbles.  Any bubbles that do form can be burst with a pin or needle. Do not let your buddy remove too much backing paper at once.

Remember this is not a speed test, slowly does it.

Emobile e5 30 day Top up Problems

Hi Alf the helper here, standing in for mr.elderly.  No doubt you wouldn't be here unless you've already gone through the emobile forums, pdf's, haven't found an answer and are topping up too late in the evening to ring the emobile support line on 1890 690 000

By far the most common problem faced by the new mobile broadband user is just how in hell do you top up or why after topping up, you can't use the 30 day top up offer, most likely resulting in the following text message

Sorry you cannot sign up to the offer as you do not have enough credit on your account. To top up call 1743 with your credit or laser card details.

Now like me you've noticed the e5 dosen't have a keypad to call 1743, so whadda you do?

The secret like most secrets is simple.

Top up and apply for the 30 day pass
BEFORE you "Connect" to the internet

I'll explain, imagine the e5 is your mobile phone, and like a mobile phone once switched on and getting a signal can send and receive service messages and requests.  Send you say! yes I do and yes you guessed it, send by using  the e5 mobile hub "homepage" on your computer.

So let's start, ensure your e5 is switched on and "NOT CONNECTED" to the Net, evidenced by the missing icon on the e5 window
Next open the e5 "homepage" in your browser by clicking your desktop icon, ensure the "Connection" tab confirms you are "disconnected" if not click the "Disconnect" button.
Good! the rest should be plain sailing, assuming you've got a mobile signal (the icon in the very left of the e5 window) Click on the "Top up" tab and enter your prepay 12 digit code
Once you've "Topped Up" head to the "Text" tab and await confirmation of you new balance.  No point in doing anything until you get that confirmation.  On rare occassions, checking your balance under the "balance" tab can help, though not always.  You'll know you've successfully topped up when you see the following
But we're not done!!! head to the "Offers" tab and type in 30 day to opt for the current prepay offer.  Click OK........

Back to the "Text" tab and await a text confirmation similar to the following.....

30 day pass confirmed, please disconnect and reconnect your session to access eMobile Broadband until 11-11-11.

Then simply "log out" of the "Homepage",  log back on and under the connection tab click "Connect" if your ready to surf the web and we're good to go.  Shimple :)

The down side:
If you've entered the prepay code, whilst "connected" to the Net, emobile will automatically deduct a one day pass, thereby cancelling any chance you had of using the 30 day offer.  Solution? ring emobile support (1890 690 000) the next morning, explain what happened and if this is your first time, with a bit of luck, they may activate your 30 day pass, though legally they don't have to.

If you have any questions, leave a comment at the bottom of this extraordinarily long post and I'll do my best to help if I can

Why do Games Cost so much ?

Your Typical $60 game

Art/Design: 25% (about $15)
Programming And Engineering: 20% (about $12)
Retail: 20% ($12)
Platform Fee: 11.5% (about $7) eg Sony Microsoft*
Marketing: 7% (about $4)
Market Development Fund: 5% (about $3)
Manufacturing Costs, Packaging: 5% (about $3)
Licensing: 5% (about $3)
Publisher profit: 1.5% (about $1)
Distributor: 1.5% (about $1)
Corporate Costs: 0.3% (about 20 cents)
Hardware development costs: 0.05% (less than 3 cents)

*Each game maker has to fork over a fee for each unit sold, which varies from console to console for example some publishers say creating games for the PlayStation 3 is more expensive because of fees Sony charges to use its Blu-Ray DVD standard.

"But that number can get smaller depending on the publisher's status," says Peer Schneider, vice president of content publishing at IGN, News Corp.'s gaming portal. "The fee can be waived for exclusivity to a platform--that will buy you a kickback."

What are Twitch Games begorrah ?

Hello dere, and welcome to my first post on the doddery gamer. You may have asked yourself a thousand times what twitch games are. No?

Well I know I have... many a time i find myself asking myself "what are twitch games", so often in fact i said to myself "Seamus" says I "you must find out what twitch games are". And so I did.

Twitch games are video games in which the player must react quickly to circumstances, to continue playing and win the game. The kick in a twitch game is that gameplay is quick and the reward or loss immediate. Any time a player actively responds to a rapidly changing scenario within a game, the player is said to be "twitching".

So now I know and you know and the World is a happier place.

Great Job Seamus, just one point your posting on the elderly gamer, not the doddery gamer.

Begorrah, i didn't see that, i'll change it straight away
