Raiden III (Ps2) Review

A port of the classic arcade shooter, complete with a stage select mode that lets you replay stages once you've cleared them. Grudgingly received with a score of 62% from 9 reviews on Metacritic.com with some disquiet about the pricing.

Reviews Summary
Raiden III is a good shmup.
Hasn't a chance of competing with exciting modern shooters Look elsewhere for your shoot-'em-up thrills.
Fans will probably enjoy it, even if there’s little that stands out other than the Dual mode
Even with flaws, it achieves what it sets out to do, deliver "destroy everything"-themed action
If you're really curious about Raiden III, a rental should satisfy your itch.
Doesn't do anything unique to stand out from other modern shoot-'em-ups, and that it isn't priced at a flat-out budget rate is a bit disquieting.
Single-player mode enables you to control both warplanes at once, essentially playing co-op with yourself.

It's a miracle this thing even got released. Unfortunately it will probably not sell that many units... meaning we wont see many more of these in the future (Except on marketplaces).

I like shumps but The Dreamcast still has the best selection...

Too right unfortunately Ross, indeed i'm surprised it didnt' make an arcade or a PS Network debut... surely a more favourable market..

Dreamcast.. ahead of it's time, what can i say.... is it Wii time in our house yet?

This game is gold. We've been waiting for a remake of this game for years. Still one of the best reguardless if it hasn't aged well. Sure it can't hold a candle to the DC's shump library but it doesn't hurt to have more.

.6 days of purgatory FK, with a seat in heaven awaiting..... ace...

Timerunner, so it appears the developers did know what they were doing.. never knew there was a market for this on Ps2.. I don't get out much.....

Should I have a prequel night like they do before film premieres?

I quite agree Timerunner! There are a few unfortunates who don't own a Dreamcast so for them, I say Yay! for Raiden...
