Folklore Reviews (PS3)

An action/adventure game by Kouji Okada (the father of the Shin Megami Tensei series) that takes you through seven mysterious Earth-like worlds. A competent tour operator Kouji Okada apparently, judging from a score of 76% from 21 reviews from Metacritic

Reviews Summary
Evoking a sense of otherworldliness. . . .in an almost heartbreakingly beautiful way no other game ever has.
Annoying dialogue, bizarre comic book style cut scenes and drab game play. Folklore is one of 2007's biggest disappointments.
Folklore is a delight to play; a game full of wonder.
One part boring adventure game, one part underdeveloped collect-em up, and one part standard dungeon crawl.
Folklore is genius that shines through.
If you’re someone who pines for originality and risk-taking, then Folklore is a tale worth flipping through.
If you want a lot of intense action, look elsewhere. If you want an experience, look here.

It is not as great as Oblivion on the PS 3, but I still had fun with it.

Wow! looks amazing! Funnyman! D'you just chew 'em up and spit 'em out? Your knowledge of 'next gen' games seems encyclopaedic... What are your thoughts on RE 5? Do you think it seems a bit racist? I'm intrigued...

I do what I can fatherkrishna. I expect RE 5 to have a climactic end to the RE franchise. As far as racism is concerned, haven't you been reading any of my comments on RE 5 fatherkrishna? I think it is very well documented that I have a great deal of hatred towards people who are accusing Capcom of being racist.

Such a pretty game. The demo was interesting. I might give it a go during the halloween hour, between movies like "Land of the Living Dead" and "Bloodrayne 3".

...

Did I say Bloodrayne....

Breath taking art direction and a whimsical world... What more could we ask for?

Maybe this will let people finally forget about Lair, which has garnered a bad reputation in a rather short amount of time...

I doubt anyone will forget about Lair (at least I still remember it). Speaking of taking notes the elderly, the creators of Lair should take notes from the makers of Folklore. Unlike Lair, the 6 axis was used to perfection in Folklore.

(peaks at Elderly's notes)

Lovely, uhm, could you add the word "german" right before porn? Thanks, you're a pal!

Unknown said...

hopefully Ross in time the travesty of Lair will be a distant memory

I was begining to think there might be problems programming the six axis controls, good to hear that's not the case... lair did damage

(writes in "German" before the word porn.....closes notebook...)

ahhh yes German pron.... (lost in reverie......)

GRAW 2 did a great job of implementing the 6 axis as well. It is just the disaster known as Lair that had flaws with the controls.

I'll sit with Funnyman any day of the week... We'll play our PSPs together...

*FK sits back and smugly waits for Elderly's reaction...*

(Actually can't wait!!! I've got a PSP!!!!)

(nichs FK's PSP and promptly smiles at elderly)

:)

I did consider this to be better than Eternal Sonata, but it is not the best RPG.

now that i didn't know funnyman... (adds graw 2 to wishlist for ps3 purchase...)

(slightly amazed at Fk's bon homie elderly sighs in relief....)
you got a psp... hey I got a psp 2, im not alone... brother... :)

oh jeez no.. Gnome, just when things were calming down, FK.. Gnome is just briefly admiring your psp.. he will return it.... he is a reformed character.. aren't you Gnome?

Funnyman im assuming we're looking at oblivion as the best rpg?

The Sports Satirist said...

For next generation console RPG Oblivion is the answer for number one. That is subject to change when Mass Effect becomes available. However, I still consider Star Wars KOTOR the best RPG ever made (last and current generation consoles included).

(gnome is nowhere to be seen. neither is the psp)

:D
