The Darkness First Look

We've had the gamer pics on xbox live since day one, and no doubt you've all seen the concept art. Not expected till March 2007 on xbox360, and (we hope) Ps3, Eurogamer have taken a little sneak peek at whats on offer, they've also included some eerie screenshots.

On the eve of his 21st birthday, fearless mafia hitman Jackie Estacado is suddenly possessed by the terrifying and spectacular powers of The Darkness. Though his supernatural entity lets him wreak terrible havoc on his enemies, the Darkness also has a strong will of its own and now Jackie must learn how to control it. Gameplay features include a blend of modern crime drama and supernatural horror with both first and third person non-linear progression, as well as highly destructible environments that enable players to stalk the gritty New York slums, harbors, subway tunnels and rooftops, then defeat the terrifying creatures of The Otherworld-a parallel reality where the Darkness dwells.

I'm not sure if this game is such a good idea. We've all seen the mob type games for awhile now. Most with mixed results. Sure the shots look nice but will a supernatural bent change the mob formula?

as your probably know the games based on the top cows comic (soon to be a film) of the same name, it does add a twist, Godfather with slime and flying goolies.... ahmmmmm wait it already had that... i see your point

Yes, but the visuals, the visuals...

They are quite nice, I mean... really...

Im surprised this was made as a 1st person game... I was hoping for 3rd myself....

That could give it a chance being that of a third person. Most mod games have you as the third. Perhaps it might add a change of pace and keep it from being a mobster doom clone

I hope so.

Indeed mr.gnome the visuals look ace, I'm still torn on the third person vs first person, First person offers humble me more immersion (having loved the athmosphere in Doom), yet I can't imagine playing dead rising in first person....

okay i'm staying up here on the fence......wait let me get a cushion first.....

Boy, thats some very cool concept art- Im trying to get ahold of a oil paint program myself...

Unknown said...

you mean a program that produces an oil paint effect or one that behaves like painting with oils....? the second would i imagine be an expensive bit of kit

Pah! Perspective means nothing... It's how you use it. Beyond Good and Evil was a perfect 3rd person game and Half Life a perfect 1st person game. Both were comparable to having a threesome (make that almost, and a threesome with ugly girls, but still...). Noone bothered with perspective.

Unknown said...

i could learn about perspective very quickly in a threesome........

lost in reverie...........

True on the perspectives. Dead Rising might not have been all that good with a 1st person along with Beyond Good and Evil. We shall just have to wait and see if it works out well in the end. A definate rental for me in the future.

Unknown said...

i concur... rental it is.... (bangs gavel.....) Bang!

okay then next lot

gnome said...

No no, not bang!

BANG!

(not very hlpful, am I?)

Unknown said...

on the contrary, i know how to use the gavel properly, i might go deaf, but my skill level has increased. Thank you oh most benefactious benefactor you.....!
