Roger Dean Fantasy Art

Roger Dean was born in Ashford, Kent, England, on the 31st of August 1944. Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1968 he continued to live and work in London. Known primarily for the dreamy, other-worldly scenes he has created for Yes, Budgie , Uriah Heep, Gentle Giant and other bands.

Dean has been referred to as a "psychedelic artist", Dean himself has said, "I don't really think of myself as a fantasy artist but as a landscape painter." Many of his paintings use mixed media including gouache, watercolor, ink, enamel, crayon and collage. Famous for his "Asia" album cover which was voted the second most successful album cover design of all time, (after "Sergeant Pepper" ) by readers of "Rolling Stone" magazine.

Two compilations of his work, Views (1975) and Magnetic Storm (1984), have been published. In addition, his architectural and furniture work has been exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum and in the Royal Academy.

Then again you're also running away from time to time, isn't it so dear timerunner? Want scary art? See Deitrix's...

And this man is a magnificent painter mr. Elderly. It would be nice to have such talented people back in gaming... But no, it's only corporate shit these days...

Silly relation to Katie Kourick, gnome. If you only understood the reason for my naming...

I mean scary in the reguards that it still tries to make a mark in the world after such artform has died long in the past. It reminds me of scifi book cover art from the 1960/70 (which of course is true given the time period of his work. I can see how not too many would be interested in such things. I fear that trade of artwork has had it's time.

deitrix on the other hand....

About the only thing you had to go on back in the game on a cassette days, was the cover art. Hell they even had manuals you didn't need a magnifying glass to read. Everytime i see that chronoquest image, (ah hardly ever) I keep wanting to play the game.

As both of you have probably guessed I love my eyecandy, and indeed having reviewed mr. Deans portfolio i do attest to the apparent "aging" of his work in my eyes. But like an old friend envoking old memories.

I really don't think art can be judged on the terms of being old or new... Fads are irrelevant... Dali, anyone?

Dali, good stuff.

No fair Dali wasn't of this World......

Well not since 1989...
